Angela Botiba scored 12 points against RIT to become the Skidmore College women's basketball's 13th 1,000-career point scorer in a heartbreaking 58-56 Liberty League defeat, Saturday afternoon at Clark Gym.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 13-7 overall and 9-2 in Liberty League play, while the Tigers go to 10-11 overall and 4-8 in conference.

The Thoroughbreds jumped out to a 13-2 lead in the opening three minutes with Botiba producing eight points, but the Tigers answered back with a 12-0 run to take a 14-13 lead. Holgate and Vilunaite helped Skidmore regain control, sparking a 12-3 run with eight and four points, respectively. The Thoroughbreds took a 32-24 lead into the break as the two teams combined for just three points in the final three minutes of the half.
Skidmore and RIT traded baskets in the opening nine minutes of the second half before
Catie Opfer's layup gave the Thoroughbreds their largest lead of the game at 45-32 with 11:09 to play. However, the Tigers fired back with a 23-9 run over the next nine minutes, taking a 55-54 lead with 2:18 remaining after a pair of Merissa Maiorano free throws. Botiba put Skidmore back in front with 1:25 to play, driving to the basket for a layup but after missed shots by both teams, Amanda Olsen knocked down a jumper with three ticks remaining to give RIT a one-point lead. Skidmore did not get a look at the basket with its final possession, as Taylor Burns forced a turnover and hit a free throw to seal the 58-56 win.
Jessica Glaz led all players with 19 points, including 11 in the second half. Olsen contributed a double-double off the bench with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Maiorano had 10 points, five assists and five boards.
Skidmore shot 32.9% (24-73) from the field for the game, but just 15.4% (4-26) from 3-point range, while RIT was 20 of 60 from the floor.
"Our road toughness was tested today and we were not able to pass the test," said Skidmore head coach
Darren Bennett. "Small things matter all the time but split hair things matter on the road, and today we didn't take care of those split hair things.
"We've got the most challenging part of our schedule ahead and we've got what we need to take in the challenge. Everyone needs to step up another level or two and be sharp all the way around for us to take care of business.
"In conference play your record doesn't matter and we've had to learn that the hard way over the last two weeks by splitting the weekends. I'm expecting our senior leads to rise up and for the rest of our team to follow in their steps as we march on in unison through this tough stretch of games coming up."
