Thoroughbreds hold off Babson for 6-5 overtime win

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Josh Trachtenberg scored  a man-up goal at 2:43 of overtime to lead the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team to a 6-5 win over Babson College in the season opener for both teams.

The Thoroughbreds came out strong fighting to a 4-0 lead after one, extending it to 5-0 at the half. R.J. Caruso made the most of his collegiate debut with two goals in the run. Brendan Halloran, Jack Metzler, and Connor Hunter also scored.

The Beavers battled back in the second half, scoring five straight to force the overtime. In the OT it was Halloran finding Trachtenberg for the game winner.

Chris Baughen had 14 saves to earn the win in his first collegiate start.

"I'm so proud of our guys and the effort to get a tough win against a strong Babson team," said Skidmore coach Patrick Hart. "Our focus all preseason has been on winning the groundball battle and we were able to do that today. We got a great effort out of our entire defense especially Chris Baughan between the pipes in his first career start. We have a lot to work on but we are going to enjoy this one and get ready for an excellent Williams team."

The Thoroughbreds head to Williams College for a March 4 game at 6 p.m.
