Women's basketball prepares for crucial weekend

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's basketball team plays its most vital games of the season this weekend, traveling to face Liberty League regular season champion St. Lawrence before hosting Clarkson in the regular season finale.

The Thoroughbreds can clinch the number two seed in the conference tournament with a win in either contest.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (14-9, 10-4 Liberty League): Skidmore suffered back-to-back overtime losses against RPI and Union over the weekend…Freshman guard Kelly Donnelly recorded double-doubles in both contests, earning Liberty League Rookie of the Week honors…She tied a career-high with 21 points against Union to go along with 11 rebounds….Senior forward Angela Botiba also registered a pair of double-doubles, producing 10 points and 14 rebounds against RPI and 16 points and 15 boards against Union.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Thoroughbreds feature one of the top defenses in the league…They rank first in field goal percentage defense (32.8%), second in scoring defense (56.3 ppg) and third in 3-point field goal defense (24.3%)…Skidmore leads the conference in offensive rebounds per game (15.9), defensive rebounds oer game (32.4) and rebounding margin (7.4)…Skidmore limited St. Lawrence to 30.3% shooting (23-76) from the field, including 18.9% (7-37) from beyond the arc in the first meeting between the two teams this season…The Thoroughbreds are 5-5 on the road this season.

STATISTICAL LEADERS: Donnelly is averaging 16.3 points and 12 rebounds per game over the last three contests…She ranks sixth in the league in blocked shots per game (1.0) and seventh in rebounds per game (8.1)…Botiba is shooting 58.3% from the field over the last seven contests, averaging 12.9 points and 10.3 rebounds per game in that span…She leads the league with a 50.2% field goal percentage and ranks third in rebounds per game (10.2) and blocked shots per game (1.7)…Senior guard Molly McLaughlin is averaging a conference-best 5.1 assists per game, while also leading the league with a 2.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
 
 
SCOUTING THE SAINTS (19-5, 13-2 Liberty League): St. Lawrence clinched the Liberty League regular season title with a 78-60 win against Clarkson on Wednesday night…Senior forward Kara McDuffee broke the program's single-game rebounding record with 23 boards to go along with 16 points…Freshman guard Jenny Scudder had a career-high 24 points in the win, going 7 for 10 from the field, including 6 for 8 from behind the arc.
 
TEAM STATISTICS: The Saints are 8-2 at home and have won seven straight in Burkman Gym…St. Lawrence is 13-0 when shooting over 39% from the field, 9-0 when shooting 35% or better from 3-point range and 15-0 when recording 15 or more assists…The Saints leads the league in 3-pointers per game (6.9) and rank second in field goal percentage (39.3%) and 3-point field goal percentage (31.3%)…St. Lawrence has outscored its opponents by an average of 12 points.
