Ice hockey ready for ECAC East postseason

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College ice hockey team begins its run at the ECAC East championship when it travels to take #6 UMass Boston in the quaterfinals on Saturday.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS (4-16-3, 3-14-1 ECAC East): Skidmore closed out the regular season with a pair of losses in a home-and-home with Castleton…. Freshman forward Zach Arden scored a goal in each game…Sophomore forward Marc Cibelli had a pair of assists in Saturday's 4-3 defeat.
 
STATISTICS: Cibelli (10G, 12A) and Bird (9G, 13A) are tied for the team high with 22 points…Senior forward Ondrej Krajnak leads the team with 13 assists…Freshman defenseman Connor Pelkey is tied for second in the league with five power play goals and ranks third in rookie scoring and seventh in defenseman scoring with 13 points (8G, 5A)…The Thoroughbreds are sixth in the league in power play efficiency (16.7%)…are 2-8-1 on the road…Skidmore has dropped six consecutive contests.
 
 
SCOUTING THE BEACONS (21-3-1, 16-2 ECAC East): UMass Boston extended its winning streak to seven with wins over Saint Michael's and #1 Norwich over the weekend…Junior Mike Miller scored the overtime winner in the Beacons 6-5 win over Saint Michael's…Junior forwards Frankie DeAugustine and Matt Lemire each registered two goals and an assist against the Purple Knights…Junior forward Peter McIntyre had two goals, including the game winner, and added an assist against the Cadets…Junior netminder Billy Faust earned both wins, improving to 12-02-1 on the season.
 
STATISTICS: Senior forward Stephen Buco leads the nation in scoring with 30 assists and 44 points (14G, 30A) and McIntyre ranks sixth with 22 assists and 12th with 32 points (10G, 22A)…Sophomore defenseman Tyler Bishop and senior blueliner Dan Cornell rank 3-4 in the league in scoring with 17 points and 15 points, respectively…Freshman forward Colin Larkin leads all rookies with 24 points (9G, 15A)…The Beacons are 9-0 at home against ECAC East opponents…UMass Boston is 15-1 when scoring first, 9-0 when leading after one and 14-0 when leading after two…UMass Boston has scored a league-high 116 goals and has outscored its opponents 49-18 in the third period.
