Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College softball picked up a pair of victories in its doubleheader against Cazenovia College, winning 4-2 and 8-0, Sunday afternoon at Wagner Park.
The Thoroughbreds improve to 6-10 on the season, while the Wildcats go to 1-9.
In the first game, Skidmore got on the board in the bottom of the first with an RBI groundout from
Lauren Gorstein. The Thoroughbreds added to the lead in the third inning, as
Cassie Fishkin belted a two-run homerun to centerfield, driving in Gorstein who reached on a double.
Cazenovia rallied in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 3-1. Ashley Morgan started the charge with a double, followed by an Angelica Clark single. Marisa Scarcella and Samantha McCarthy drew back-to-back walks, plating the Wildacats first run of the game, but
Lauren Fortunato took the mound with one out and managed to retire the next two batters to preserve the two run lead.
Skidmore extended its lead to three in the bottom half on the inning on an RBI double by
Lila Rosenfeld, and Cazenovia could only muster one run in the top of the seventh, as Fortunato closed out the game, earning her first save of the season.
Fishkin, Gorstein and
Mackenzie Whiting each finished 2-3 at the plate for the Thoroughbreds.
Lila Rosenfeld registered her first win of the season, going 5.1 innings allowing one run on five hits, while recording four strikeouts.
Skidmore jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game two on a two-out RBI double from Whiting in the bottom of the first. Fortunato's team-high 11th RBI of the season put the Thoroughbreds ahead 3-0 in the third, as she plated Rosenfeld.
Skidmore closed out the game in the fifth, piling on five runs to seal the win. After Whiting knocked in her third RBI of the contest with a single,
Brittany Osborn produced a two-RBI double. Fortunato drove in the Thoroughbreds sixth run with an RBI single to right field and
Abby Shea closed out the contest, plating
Sam Skott on a single.
Whiting finished 3-3 for the game with three RBI, while Fortunato was 2-2 with a pair of RBI. Fishkin threw five scoreless innings for Skidmore, allowing three hits and striking out four.
Skidmore travels to MCLA for a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader, Thursday, April 10.
