Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College softball swept New England College in its final double header of the regular season, winning 13-4 and 10-2, Tuesday evening at Wagner Park.
In game one, the Pilgrims (10-20) took a 4-2 lead in the fourth inning as Alex Swanson drove in two runs with a single, but the Thoroughbreds (14-18) responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
May-Lin McEvoy had an RBI triple and later scored on a
Lila Rosenfeld double. McEvoy homered in the bottom of the fifth, putting Skidmore ahead 7-4 and the Thoroughbreds piled on six runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Lauren Fortunato started the rally with a double and
Abby Shea brought her home with an RBI double.
Lauren Gorstein and
Billie Kanfer drew back-to-back walks setting up a bases-loaded double by
Cassie Fishkin, and
Brittany Osborn belted a home run to centerfield on the next at bat to end the game.
Fortunato went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, McEvoy was 2-for-3 with three RBI, Osborn finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and Fishkin went 2-for-4. Fishkin also picked up the win on the mound, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out for over three and two thirds innings.
Brittney Distante led the Pilgrims, going 3-for-3 with a double. Taylor Belsito went 2-for-4 with a run scored and Gina Drappi was 2-for-3.
The Thoroughbreds continued to swing hot bats in the nightcap, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Fishkin drove in the game's first run with an RBI single and Rosenfeld brought in two runs with a single. Skidmore added one run in both the second and third innings before putting the game out of reach with a three-run fourth.
Fishkin made it 6-0 with an RBI single down the right field line and later scored on a two RBI single by McEvoy. New England pulled two runs back in the top of the fifth on an RBI single from Belsito and a Rebecca Allen sacrifice fly, but Shea's two RBI single in the bottom half of the inning sealed the mercy rule victory.
Osborn went 3-for-3 with a double and three runs scored, Rosenfeld was 2-for-3 with three RBI and Fishkin finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored. Fortunato and McEvoy both went 2-for-3 and Shea as 2-for-4 with two RBI. Fishkin went the distance for her second win of the day, allowing two runs on six hits with two strikeouts over five innings.
The Thoroughbreds earned the fourth seed in the Liberty League tournament and will face the host RPI in the opening game at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 1.
