Softball drops a pair against Hamilton

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College softball team dropped a pair of games against Hamilton College, Wednesday evening at Wagner Park. The Thoroughbreds dropped game one 14-6 and fell 8-2 in the second game.
 
Skidmore goes to 10-16 on the season, while the Continentals improve to 11-19.
 
In game one, the Thoroughbreds took a 2-0 lead with Cassie Fishkin and Brittany Osborn each driving in a run. Hamilton responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning and three runs in the second.  The Continentals put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth inning.
 
Osborn finished 3-for-3 with a double and three RBI, Abby Shea was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Lauren Fortunato went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Fortunato took the loss on the mound.
 
Sam Miller led the Continentals offense, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI. Ellie Kiernan was 3-for-4 with three RBI and four runs scored, Chelsea Merritt went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Talia Mercado went 3-for-4. Monique St. Jarre picked up her fifth win, allowing five runs on eight hits with two strikeouts and two walks.
 
The second game was called due to darkness after five innings. Skidmore got out to a 2-0 lead as Fishkin drove in Shea with a double to left center and later scored on an error. Again, Hamilton answered in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs. The Continentals added three runs in the fourth and Kelly Leonard shut down the Thoroughbreds offense to secure the win. Leonard went five innings, allowing four hits and no earned runs with six strikeouts.
 
Miller continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-three with a double and two RBI, Kiernan went 2-for-3 and Kiernan with two RBI and St. Jarre was 2-for-2 with two RBI. 
 
Skidmore hosts a doubleheader against Clarkson University at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26.
