Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.-- Cassie Fishkin tossed a complete game win, allowing only one unearned run, to lead the Skidmore College softball team to a 2-1 win and a split with Castleton State, Wednesday at Wagner Park.  The Spartans won the first game 3-2.
 
In the first game, Castleton (1-3) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Kayla Daigle reached on a walk and later scored on Jessica Babcock triple.  Skidmore (3-9) tied it in the fourth when Abby Shea reached on an error and later scored on a single by Lauren Fortunato.
 
Veronica Arnone drilled a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Spartans a 3-1 lead.  The Thoroughbreds got one back in the seventh when Fishkin lead off with a double. Billie Kanfer went in to pinch run and later scored on a Mackenzie Whiting sac fly.
 
Fortunato pitched well in the loss, allowing three runs on three hits. Kristi Lawless was 3-4 for Castleton, while Brooke Naylor was 2-2.  Arnone earned the win in relief, allowing one run on one hit in three innings.
 
In the second game, Skidmore got the quick start when Fortunato lead off the first with a triple that stretched into a run on a throwing error.  The Thoroughbreds made it 2-0 with an unearned run in the fourth. Castleton added an unearned run of its own in its half of the fourth, to pull within one 2-1.
 
Fishkin shut the door on the Spartans, keeping them off the board for the final three innings. She allowed one unearned run on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks.
 
Katie Gagne took the loss for Castleton, she pitched four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on two hits. Cassidy Tedeschi pitched three innings of scoreless relief.
 
Skidmore is back in action Saturday at home against Rensselaer at 1 p.m.
