Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.— The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team opened Liberty League play with a 7-6 loss at Vassar College, Friday evening at Weinberg Field.
The Thoroughbreds (1-6, 0-1) got caught in a high-pressured midfield game with the Brewers (6-1, 1-0).
Vassar took advantage of a late Skidmore penalty to tie the game 6-6 with 10:06 to play in the second half and then went on top for good with a goal at 9:17.
The Thoroughbreds had a pair of chances late, but a pair of costly turnovers ended the threat.
Tyler Phillips led Skidmore with two goals and four ground balls.
Spencer Morgan,
Tess Mattimore and
Allison Byrne all scored solo goals, while
Peggy Healy had a goal and two assists.
Megan Kolopsky had eight saves in net for the Thoroughbreds. Vassar outshot Skidmore 19-14, holding the Thoroughbreds to only two shots on goal in the second half.
Skidmore continues league play on Saturday against Bard College in a 7:30 p.m. game at Dietz Stadium in Kingston.
