Thoroughbreds hang tight with #20 Dickinson

Box Score ORLANDO, Fla.—The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team took unbeaten Dickinson College to the wire before dropping a 9-7 contest, Monday afternoon in Florida.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 1-2 and will conclude their Florida trip on March 13 at 1 p.m. vs. Connecticut College. Dickinson, ranked 20th nationally, is 5-0.
 
Dickinson scored the game's first three goals, before Adele Mackey got Skidmore on the board with 9:51 to play in the first half. Emma Olcott cut the lead to 3-2 at 4:15.
 
The Red Devils scored the first two goals of the second half to open a 5-2 lead, but the Thoroughbreds battled back again, scoring three straight to tie the game. Tess Mattimore, Peggy Healy, and Tyler Phillips were credited with the goals.  Dickinson went back in front 7-5 with consecutive goals. The teams then traded goals down the stretch for the 9-7 final.  Phillips and Allison Byrne scored the final Skidmore goals.
 
Phillips finished with two goals and an assist. Caroline Bowne had five draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers.
 
Spencer Morgan had three saves in net over the first 49:25, allowing seven goals. Emma Harris played the final 10:35.
 
Total stats were virtually even. Dickinson outshot Skidmore 17-15 and had a narrow 24-23 ground ball advantage.
