Skidmore wins third straight

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to three games with a 64-53 Liberty League victory against Clarkson, Tuesday night at the Williamson Sports Center.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 9-11 (4-7 Liberty) with the win, while the Golden Knights go to 8-9 (3-6).

Molly McLaughlin and Jordyn Wartts finished with a team-high16 points each for the Thoroughbreds. Wartts added nine boards and four assists and Lindsey Davis tallied 14 points.
 
Clarkson got out to a 13-8 lead with Ashley Loggins scoring 11 of her 14 first half points during that span. The Thoroughbreds responded, pulling in front with an 11-0 run sparked by back-to-back 3-pointers from McLaughlin and Ella Scheurell.
 
After the Golden Knights were held scoreless for 14:39, Loggins converted on a layup and the ensuing free-throw, cutting the Skidmore lead to 19-16 at the half.
 
Davis scored five quick points after halftime as part of a 7-2 Thoroughbreds run, but Clarkson battled back, outscoring Skidmore 16-8 to tie the game at 34-34. Angela Botiba restored the Thoroughbreds lead with a three-point play and Wartts rattled off nine points to make it 49-45 with 2:44 remaining.
 
With the Golden Knights chipping away at the lead, Davis put the game out of reach, knocking down a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left. Skidmore hit its free-throws down the stretch, securing the 64-53 win.
 
The Thoroughbreds were 25-of-29 from the charity stripe, while Clarkson shot only 13 free-throws, making eight. The Golden Knights shot 49-percent from the field, going 20-of-41.
 
Loggins scored a game-high 28 points on 11-of-14 shooting and Jovanna sneed added 13 points for Clarkson.
 
Skidmore travels to St. Lawrence Tuesday, Feb. 11 for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
