Wartts dominant in Skidmore finale

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -- Senior Jordyn Wartts was dominant in her final collegiate game, tallying a game-high 23 points to lead the Skidmore College women's basketball team to a 75-51 win against RIT, Saturday afternoon at the Williamson Sports Center.
 
Wartts scored 11 points in the first half and 12 in the second to go along with seven rebounds, six assists and four steals. Angela Botiba recorded her 13th double-double with 16 points and 16 boards.
 
Skidmore used a balance offensive attack to pull away in the first half, opening up a 23-point lead with 4:47 to play in the first. Botiba contributed nine points, Molly McLaughlin tallied seven, Lindsey Davis chipped in with six and Amber Holgate added five points off the bench.
 
McLaughlin scored the half's final points, hitting a three with 1:31 to play, giving the Thoroughbreds a 41-22 lead at the break. Skidmore's 41 first-half points marks the most the team has scored in the opening period this season.
 
The Tigers started the second half with back-to-back threes from Ashlynn Palmitesso and Mallory Apperson, but the Thoroughbreds regained control with a 17-2 run, taking a 58-30 lead.
 
RIT chipped away at the Thoroughbreds lead with a 11-2 run capped by a Kayla Wheeler lay-up, cutting the deficit to 19 at 60-41 but that's as close as it would get. Skidmore continued to hit its shots down the stretch to close out the comfortable 75-51 win.  
 
Courtney Tennant scored a team-high 15 points for the Tigers, adding four rebounds and three blocks and Palmitesso added 14 points.
 
The Thoroughbreds owned the glass all game, outrebounding the Tigers 51-31.
 
Skidmore closes out its season at 11-14 (6-10 Liberty), while RIT, which clinched the fourth seed in the Liberty League Tournament, ends the regular season at 14-11 (10-6).
