ResultsCANTON, N.Y. -- The Skidmore College men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2014-2015 season Friday evening at St. Lawrence.
The men were defeated 138-88, while the women were topped 123-73.
On the men's side the team of
Carl Vanasse,
Robert Fulton,
Bailey Best and
Charlie Bullis won the 400 Medley Relay with a time of 3:57.35. Vanasse, Best and Fulton also added strong individual performances, placing second in the 100 back, the 200 IM and the 100 back, respectively.
Gabriel Salitan-Alvarez and
Nick Sauerbrunn both recorded a pair of second-place finishes. Salitan-Alvarez came in second in the 1000 freestyle (10:58.48), shaving more than 20 seconds off his lifetime best time, and touched in second in the 100 fly (1:01.70). Sauerbrunn placed second in the 200 free (1:52.75) and the 500 freestyle (5:11.42). Senior diver
Jacob Nathan added a second-place finish in the 3-meter with a score of 260.16.
Yookee Roh led the women's team with two wins, placing first in the 200 IM (2:22.00) and the 100 back (1:06.63). Catherine King finished second in the 50 free (25.85) and 100 (58.08) free and Kate Lambos put points on the board for the Thoroughbreds, swimming to second-place finishes in the 200 free (2:07.58) and the 500 free (5:52.68).
"Saint Lawrence women remain a strong team in the Liberty League and it was good to see many of our women compete with their top women, while their men's team is much improved over last year," said Skidmore head coach
Jill Belding Greenleaf. "Our team learned a lot tonight in this opener and we look forward to working on many of the details and see improvement tomorrow and in meets to come."
The Thoroughbreds travel to Potsdam Saturday, Nov. 1 for a 1 p.m. meet.
