Skidmore upended by RIT, 69-59

Box Score ROCHESTER, NY -- The Skidmore College women's basketball team suffered a 69-59 setback against RIT, Saturday night in a Liberty League matchup.
 
Jordyn Wartts recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Angela Botiba was the Thoroughbreds top scorer with 14 points to go along with six boards and Molly McLaughlin added 11 points and five assists.
 
The first half was back-and-forth throughout much of the half with six ties and six lead changes. The Thoroughbreds got out in front 22-20 with a jumper from Ella Schuerell, but RIT took control with a 15-0 run over the final 6:49, leading 35-22 at the half. Ashlynn Palmitesso scored 11 of RIT's 15 points, including three straight three pointers. Palmitesso led RIT with 17 first-half points on 6-of-12 shooting, including three 3-pointers.

Skidmore opened the second half with an 11-2 run, pulling to within 37-33 with 16:07 to play in the second half after 3-pointers by Wartts, Lindsey Davis McLaughlin. The Thoroughbreds would get no closer as RIT extended their lead back to 14 points on a jumper by Mallory Apperson with 7:54 to play in the second half.

Skidmore shot 39.3 percent from the floor on 22-of-56 shooting. The Thoroughbreds went 7-of-20 from behind the arc, and were 8-of-14 from the foul line.

RIT shot 41.7 percent from the floor on 25-of-60 shooting. The Tigers were 7-of-18 from behind the arc and were 12-of-15 from the charity stripe.

Palmitesso scored a career-high 32 points on 12-of-26 shooting, Courtney  Tennant added 11 points and 10 rebound and Kayla Wheeler tallied 10 points.

The Thoroughbreds host St. Lawrence Tuesday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m.
