Skidmore falls against Vassar, 58-50

Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College women's basketball team dropped a tightly contested matchup against Vassar College, 58-50, Friday night at the Williamson Sports Center.

Jordyn Wartts led the Thoroughbreds, tying a game-high with 22 points, while Angela Botiba scored eight points and pulled down nine boards.

Hannah Senftleber had 22 points and nine rebounds for the Brewers, Cyndi Matsuoka contributed 13 points, six rebounds and five assists and Caitlin Drakeley had seven points, eight rebounds and 3 steals.
 
The Thoroughbreds started the game on a 9-4 run capped by a Migle Vilunaite layup. Senftleber responded for the Brewers responded, capitalizing on a fast break to tie the game at 12-12. Lindsey Davis gave Skidmore a four-point cushion with eight minutes to play in the first, hitting a deep 3-pointer, but again Vassar bounced back, closing out the half with a 14-4 run capped by a Michaela Janowski jumper, taking a 32-26 lead into halftime.
 
Wartts cut the Brewers lead to four on Skidmore's first possession of the second half, grabbing a rebound and getting a lay up to fall, but Vassar took a 44-32 lead thanks to a 12-4 run during which Sentfleber rattled off six-straight points.
 
Wartts brought the Thoroughbreds back within six (44-38) with just over six minutes remaining, converting on a layup and a three-pointer. Skidmore hung close over the final six minutes of the contest, but Vassar was able to put the game out of reach with Drakeley, Mastuoka and Senftleber hitting key shots down the stretch for the 58-50 win.
 
The Thoroughbreds return to action Saturday, Jan. 11, hosting William Smith at 2 p.m.
