Softball falls at RPI

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TROY, N.Y. - The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) softball team's pitching staff held Skidmore College to one run on 10 hits as the Engineers swept a Liberty League doubleheader with the Thoroughbreds, 10-0 and 5-1, at Doris Robison Field.

RPI improves to 14-6 overall and 3-1 in the league. Skidmore falls to 8-18 and 0-4.


In the first game, Skidmore got singles from five different players, three of which came in the fifth inning.  Julia Schwartz, who pitched a complete game, took the loss from the circle.

The second game saw the Engineers jump out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and junior Charlene Osmanski made it stand by pitching a complete game five-hitter. 

Down 3-0, Skidmore pulled to within 3-1 on a double to right centerfield by Schwartz in the fourth inning, but RPI scored  a run in the fifth to regain the three-run margin, extending it to 5-1 in the sixth.

Cassie Fishkin had a double for the Thoroughbreds.

The Thoroughbreds travel to Middlebury on Wednesday for a doubleheader (3:30pm).
