Box Score SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— The Rochester Institute of Technology women's lacrosse team used a 7-0 to pull away from Skidmore in a 16-8 Liberty League win.
The Thoroughbreds are 3-11 overall and 2-5 in league play, while the Tigers improve to 9-5 and 4-3.
RIT scored twice to take an early 2-0 lead. Skidmore got on the board with a free position goal from
Tess Mattimore at 23:33. Marlee Vlassis got it right back for the Tigers after the draw to make it 3-1 at 23:24.
Emma Harris scored Skidmore's second goal from Mattimore at 20:46 to cut it back to one, 3-2. The Tigers went back up by two on an unassisted score from Loren Azlein at 13:37.
Caroline Bowne cut it back to one, 4-3 at 10:54.
RIT scored the next seven goals, spanning into the second half, to open an 11-3 advantage. Shelby Vaklener scored three of her game-high six goals in the run.
The Thoroughbreds played the Tigers even the rest of the way for the 16-8 final.
Bowne finished with two goals and five ground controls. Melville had two goals and Fetterolf had a goal and an assist to go along with four ground balls and a pair of draw controls. Mattimore finished with a goal and an assist and
Spencer Morgan had a goal.
Vaklener had six goals, three assists, five ground balls and nine draw controls. Corrina Mandell added three goals and an assist.
Shelby Witheford had nine saves for Skidmore, while Katelyn Cane stopped seven shots for RIT.
The Thoroughbreds travel to Union April 26 for a 4 p.m. game.
