Skidmore takes on #12 Amherst

Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – Eight different Jeffs scored as the 12th-ranked Amherst women's lacrosse team cruised to a 17-5 victory over Skidmore College on Gooding Field.

The Jeffs improved to 8-4 on the season. The Thoroughbreds are 2-10.

Lexi Melville '13 led Skidmore with two goals, while Spencer Morgan '15 Emma Harris '16 and Maggie Murphy '16 each chipped in with a tally.

Amherst took a 4-0 lead before Harris netted the Thoroughbreds' first goal. The Jeffs scored the two before Robin Fetterolf '14 found Morgan cutting to the front of the cage to trim the deficit to 6-2.

Amherst continued the pressure scoring four straight to go up 10-2. Finding space in the middle of the field, Anna Gubbins '15 found Melville to the left of goal. One-on-one with first-year goalkeeper Katelyn Salerno, Melville tucked a try into the lower right corner to end the Jeffs' string of four consecutive scores.

Up 11-3 at the intermission, Amherst out scored Skidmore 6-2 in the second half.  Murpy and Mellville had the Thoroughbred goals.

Amherst finished with a decisive 37-17 shot advantage and a 16-9 edge in ground balls. Shelby Witheford posted eight saves in the loss.
Skidmore will host Rochester on Friday at 4 p.m.
