Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Skidmore College softball team continued its spring-break schedule Wednesday with a split against a pair of non-conference opponents.
The Thoroughbreds lost the first game 11-3 to Waynesburg University before posting a 6-3 win in the nightcap against Roger Williams.
In the first game, Waynesburg got off to a strong start, sending 11 batters to the plate en route to six first inning runs.
The Thoroughbreds countered in the third when
Sam Skott reached on an error by the Waynesburg right fielder. Skidmore would go on to half the deficit, scoring three runs on the strength of back-to-back singles by
Carol Brown and
Lila Rosenfeld, plating one in the process. The Thoroughbreds scored another run in the inning when
Mackenzie Whiting grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Brown to score on the throw. Skidmore's third and final run came as
Julia Schwartz found a gap in the left side of the infield to single home Rosenfeld.
Waynesburg answered in the fifth and final inning, scoring four more runs to earn the 11-3 victory.
Brown was 1-2 in the first game with a walk and a run scored, while Schwartz was 1-2 with an RBI.

In the day's second game against Roger Williams, Skidmore solved the Hawk's pitcher early, producing three runs in the first inning.
Brown led off with a walk and moved to second on a passed ball and a wild pitch.
Katie Peverada was next to bat and worked a walk, making it first and third with no outs. Whiting proceeded to plate Brown after grounding out the second base for Skidmore's first run. After a Thoroughbred out, Sorochka stepped in and smashed a double to deep left field, scoring Peverada from first. The next batter,
Cassie Fishkin, singled home Sorochka to give the Thoroughbreds a 3-0 advantage.
Skidmore was back at it in the fourth, scoring two more runs on RBI from Brown and
Christine Munisteri to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Sorochka was tough on the mound, as Roger Williams sent only 15 batters to the plate in the game's first four innings. The Skidmore pitcher did not give up a run until the fifth when consecutive singles forced in a run. She also went 1-4 at the plate with an RBI.
Skidmore scored its sixth and final run in the sixth after Munisteri found a gap in the outfield resulting in a triple. Shortstop
Abby Shea singled in
Katie Amo who had entered the game as a pinch runner for Munisteri.
Brown had a strong game for Skidmore, going 1-3 with a walk, one run scored and a run batted in. Munisteri was 2-3 with a triple and two runs scored in the win.
Skidmore continues its spring-break schedule today when it faces Lake Forest at 9 a.m. and Lakeland at 11 a.m.
