Thoroughbreds off to solid spring trip start

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Kissimmee, Fla.-- The Skidmore College softball team is 2-2 after four of 10 spring break games.
 
The Thoroughbreds (3-3) opened with a 4-3 win over Wheaton College, before losing the nightcap 16-7 to Geneva College.
 
On the second day, the team rebounded from an 11-0 loss to Coast Guard with a 5-4 win over Roger Williams University.
 
Against Wheaton, Skidmore rallied from two runs down with three runs in the top of the seventh for the win. Christine Munisteri, Carol Brown, Mackenzie Whiting, each singled in the seventh, for the Thoroughbreds who scored three runs on three hits and an error.
 
Abby Shea was 2-3 with two runs, while Brown finished 2-4 with a run. Katie Sorochka got the win on the mound, striking out seven.
 
In the Geneva game, Skidmore scored seven runs in the second inning for a 7-2 lead. Geneva bounced back with five in the third and then put the game away with six in the seventh.  For the Thoroughbreds, Lila Rosenfeld was 2-5 with a two-run double. Whiting was 1-4 with a two-run single and Julie Schwartz was 2-3 with an RBI double. Sorochka went 2-4 with an RBI double and Abby Shea was 2-4.
 
Coast Guard scored nine runs in the first inning on the way to the 11-0 win.  Whiting had another solid game for Skidmore with two of the team's four hits.
 
In the Roger Williams eighth, Whiting moved Rosenfeld to third with a sac bunt. Rosenfeld then scored on a Schwartz ground out for what would be the winning run.  Sorochka then got three straight outs in the bottom of the eighth for the win.  Schwartz was 1-4 with two RBI. Cassie Fishkin was 1-4 with an RBI double and Brown went 2-4. Katie Peverada and Shea each had RBI singles.
