Skidmore swimming and diving sweeps Utica

RESULTS

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY -- The Skidmore College men and women's swimming and diving teams both notched wins against Utica College Saturday.
 
The women recorded a convincing 130-87 win, while the men earned a 169-121 victory.
 
On the women's side Katherine Kelloway was a triple winner, placing first in the 100 Back (1:05.78) and 100 Fly (1:04.56) and combining with Erin Donovan, Caroline Tuttle, and Monica Abdul-Chani for first in the 200 Medley Relay (2:01.28). Donovan also placed first in the 200 Back (2:16.92) and Emily Przysinda, Kate Lambos and Sarah Shaw were also dual winners. Przysinda won the 1000 free (11:48.83) and 500 free (5:41.00), Lambos finished first in the 200 Free (2:10.64) and 100 free (58.83) and Shaw placed first the 200 fly (2:32.67) and 200 IM (2:26.36).
 
The men rebounded from a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with a 1-2 finish in the 1000 free with Peter Quattromani touching first (10:46.14) and Nick Sauerbrunn coming in second (10:49.35).  Quattromani also battled to a first place finish in the 500 Free (5:14.01), coming from over a body length behind in the final 100 yards, and finished third in the 200 Fly. Sauerbrunn also earned a victory in the 200 Breast (2:32.78).
 
After a string second place finishes in the 200 Free, 100 Back and 100 Breast, the team began to take control of the meet. Gabriel Salitan-Alvarez swam a lifetime best 2:17.08 to win the 200 Fly and Tim Brodsky placed first the 50 Free with a season best 23.21.
 
The Thoroughbreds victory was in large part due to strong second and third place swims in addition to the wins. Mario Hyman, who swam a season best in the 100 Free (51.73), also placed second in the 200 Free and 200 IM, and Lyle Stephenson second and Bailey Best finished 2-3 in both the 100 and 200 Back.
 
The divers also helped propel Skidmore to victory, as Kai Inaba won in the 1 meter diver 6 dive event with a score of 193.80 and Tommy Heidebrecht was the top diver in the 1 meter 5 dive event with a score of 148.20.

The Thoroughbreds participate at the Liberty League Championships at Union College Dec. 6-7.
