Thoroughbreds complete weekend sweep with 57-46 win over William Smith

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- The Skidmore College women's basketball team held William Smith to just 20.3 percent from the floor in a 57-46 Liberty League win, Saturday afternoon at the Williamson Sports Center.
 
The Thoroughbreds are 2-0 in Liberty League play and 4-7 overall.  The Herons had a four-game win streak snapped to fall to 1-2 and 7-4.
 
Jordyn Wartts led the way for Skidmore with 19 points, four assists, and five rebounds. Skylar Caligaris scored 14 points, had six boards and a pair of blocks.  Angela Botiba had 10 rebounds and four blocks.
 
The Thoroughbreds held a 28-16 lead at the half and outscored the Herons 19-8 over the first 10 minutes of the second half for a 23-point advantage, 47-24.
 
William Smith wouldn't go quietly, using a 16-0 run over a span of 8:31 to cut the Skidmore lead to 47-40 with 1:45 to play. 
 
That would be as close as the Herons would get.  Wartts ended the scoring drought with a pair of free throws with 1:45 left and Skylar Caligaris made two of her own with 1:33 to play to get the lead to key a 10-6 run to close the game.
 
Jacqueline Murphy led William Smith with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sydni Salvatore added 10 points.
 
The Herons only hit 13 of 64 field goal attempts (20.3%), going with out a field goal for the game's first 5:20.
 
Skidmore is at St. Lawrence on Jan. 8 for a 6 p.m. game.
