Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team dropped a pair of games to Williams in Tuesday's non-league doubleheader at Thoroughbred Field. The Ephs won game one 6-2 and took game two 8-1.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 13-21, while Williams improves to 17-16.
In the opener, the Ephs struck first on a sacrifice bunt from Ali Graebner that plated Theresa Legan in the first inning. Lindsey Precht made it 2-0 with a solo homerun in the second inning, her second of the season.
Skidmore got on the board in the sixth when
Donata Lorenzo doubled home
Christina Gargiso to cut the lead to 2-1. The Ephs took advantage of two Thoroughbred errors in the top of the seventh as they tacked on four more, highlighted by Ally Ensor's two-run double, to make it 6-1.
Carol Brown cut the lead to 6-2 in the bottom half of the inning on her first collegiate homerun, but that's as close as Skidmore would get.
Sam Crose (9-9) took the loss, allowing six runs (two earned) on 10 hits, while striking out eight and walking none in the complete game effort. Emma Harrington (11-5) earned the win, tossing four shutout innings with five strikeouts. Kaitlin Dinet allowed two runs on three hits in the final three innings to earn the save.
In the nightcap, neither team was able to get on the board until the fourth when Emalie Rott plated Zoe Dillon-Davidson with an RBI groundout. The Thoroughbreds answered back in the bottom of the fourth with a
Katie Sorochka RBI groundout to tie it up at 1-1.
Williams took the lead for good in the fifth on a Dillon-Davidson run-scoring single. They scored three more in the sixth, highlighted by an Ensor two-run triple before adding three more in the seventh to go on to the 8-1 victory.
Abby Fuhrman (3-8) took the loss as she allowed five runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings of work. Megan Casey (4-7) earned the complete game victory, allowing one run on three hits.
Skidmore looks to earn a spot in the Liberty League tournament when they return to action on Saturday at St. Lawrence.
