Strong second half sends Skidmore past Vassar, 11-7

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team scored six consecutive goals in the second half for an 11-7 victory over Vassar, Saturday at Weinberg Field.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 9-6 overall, 4-4 league, while the Brewers fall to 5-8, 2-5.

The teams battle back and forth throughout the first half.  After falling behind 1-0, Lexi Melville took a pass from Summer Segalas and tied it up.  Vassar answered right back, but Skidmore responded with goals from Robin Fetterolf and Segalas to grab thier first lead.

Once again the Brewers answered as Katherine Stegmann and Dara Davis tallied goals 34 seconds apart to give Vassar the lead right back.  The Thoroughbreds tied it up after a 10:40 scoreless drought on Melville's second of the game and grabbed the lead for good as Segalas beat the clock to score with one second remaining in the half, giving Skidmore a 5-4 lead at the break.

The Thoroughbreds ran off six goals to start the second half as six different players scored.  Lauren Madden started the run with her 27th of the season before Paige DiAntonio recorded her first collegiate goal on a free position shot.  Goals from Segalas, Melville, Peggy Healy and Fetterolf rounded out the 8-0 run.  Vassar was able to rally, scoring three straight, but Skidmore held on for the 11-7 win.

Segalas finished with three goals and an assist while Melville also scored three.  Ali Evans finished with a game-high four ground balls and Leslie Stebbins added a game-high five draw controls.  Rachel Klein made four saves for the Thoroughbreds in net.

Skidmore finishes its season next week hosting Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on April 28 at 4 p.m..
