Thoroughbreds fall to #10 Amherst

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team fell to #10 Amherst, 20-5 in Tuesday night's non-league game at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds fall to 7-5 overall, while the Lord Jeffs improve to 9-3.

After falling behind 0-2, back-to-back goals from Lauren Madden and Leslie Stebbins tied it up for Skidmore.  Amherst responded with seven unanswered goals, three coming from Krist Zsitvay, to take control of the game.  Lexi Melville was able to break up the run with her 25th goal of the season off a pass from Stebbins, but the Lord Jeffs responded and took a 10-3 lead into the break.

After a Marta Randall goal for Amherst, Stebbins cut the lead to seven with her second of the game.  But the Lord Jeffs came right back with another run to take a 19-4 lead.  Robin Fetterolf was able to cap the scoring for Skidmore with 4:28 remaining, but Amherst added another goal with just 2:08 remaining and went on to the 20-5 win.

Stebbins finished with two goals and an assist for the Thoroughbreds.  Rachel Klein took the loss, making 9 saves and grabbing a team-high five ground balls in 48:41 of action.  Shelby Witheford made two saves in relief over the final 11:19.

Skidmore returns to Liberty League action this Friday at Bard.
