Rough league start for Thoroughbreds

Rochester, N.Y.—  RIT jumped out to an 8-1 lead and never looked back on the way to a 20-14 Liberty League women's lacrosse win over Skidmore College, Friday at RIT's Turf Field.
 
RIT midfielder Shelby Vakiener  tied RIT's single-game record with 11 points, while breaking the university's record for points in a career, as the Tigers (2-3, 1-0 Liberty League)  rolled to a the  win over the Thoroughbreds (4-2, 0-1 Liberty League). It was RIT's  first ever Liberty League contest.

Skidmore outshot RIT, 35-29 and won the battle of the ground balls, 23-20, and draw controls, 22-14.

Summer Segalas led the Thoroughbreds with five goals, while Lauren Madden, and Leslie Stebbins tallied three goals apiece. Abbie Hamlin won five draw controls, while Ali Evans led the way with seven ground balls.

The duo of Rachel Klein and Shelby Witheford combined to make three saves in goal for Skidmore.

Skidmore will continue its Western New York swing at the University of Rochester on Saturday at 2 p.m.
