Skidmore comes up short at St. Lawrence

Box Score Canton, N.Y. - The Skidmore College women's basketball team fell to St. Lawrence, 56-47 in Tuesday night's Liberty League matchup at Burkman Gymnasium.

The Thoroughbreds fall to 14-9 overall and 7-7 in league play, making a close race down the stretch as six teams remain in contention for the final three playoff spots.  The Saints improve to 20-4 overall and close out league play with a perfect 16-0 record, clinching the top seed in next week's Liberty League tournament.

Skidmore came out strong, opening the game on a 12-2 run capped by a three from Lindsey Davis at 10:19.  St. Lawrence battled back and took its first lead after a three-point play from Kelly Legg.  The teams traded baskets down the stretch as the Saints to a 24-23 lead into the break.

St. Lawrence opened the second half on a 17-2 run to push its lead to 16, but the Thoroughbreds were able to cut the lead down to four after a pair of Christina Gargiso free throws at 6:46.  The Saints answered back though and held off Skidmore for the 56-49 win.

Gargiso led the Thoroughbreds with 13 points and seven rebounds, while Angela Botiba added eight points and six rebounds.  Jordyn Wartts tallied seven points to go along with three assists and Megan Gaugler finished with five points, six rebounds and four blocks.

Katie Edgerton had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead St. Lawrence.  Legg added nine points and four blocks and Casey Capello pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

Skidmore hosts RPI on Friday at 6 p.m. and close out the regular season with a Saturday matchup with Union.
