Thoroughbreds fall to #9 Amherst

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The ninth-ranked Amherst College women's basketball team used a big second half to pick up a 64-36 win over Skidmore Saturday afternoon at the Williamson Sports Center.
 
The Thoroughbreds fall to 2-3, while the Lord Jeffs remain unbeaten at 5-0.
 
In the first half, Amherst controlled the tempo early and pushed their lead to 27-15 on a Jasmine Hardy three pointer with 7:16 remaining.  Skidmore responded with an 11-0 run capped by a Dani DeGregory three pointer to cut the lead down to 27-26.  Haley Zwecker broke the scoreless streak for the Jeffs on a layup to give Amherst a 29-26 lead at the break.
 
The second half was all Amherst as the Jeffs opened with a 15-2 run to seize control of the game.  They shot 15-of-32 from the floor in the second half as they outscored the Thoroughbreds 35-10 in the second half en route to a 64-36 victory.
 
Angela Botiba led the way for Skidmore, scoring 12 points to go along with five rebounds, three steals, two assists and two blocks.  Jordyn Wartts pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and Molly McLaughlin dished out four assists.
 
For Amherst, Hardy led three players in double figures with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.  Megan Robertson tallied 14 points and four blocks and Marcia Voigt scored 13 and tallied seven assists.  Savannah Holness pulled down a game-high nine rebounds off the bench.
 
The Jeffs shot 41.9% (26-62) from the floor compared to 33.3% (15-45) for the Thoroughbreds and scored 18 points off 16 Skidmore turnovers.
 
The Thoroughbreds return to action on Dec. 4 at Williams.
