William Smith outlasts Skidmore, 64-61

Box Score Saratoga Springs, N.Y. - The Skidmore College women's basketball team dropped a hard fought game, 64-61 to William Smith in Saturday's Liberty League action at the Williamson Sports Center.

The Thoroughbreds drop to 11-6 overall and 4-4 in league play, while the Herons improve to 9-8 overall and 5-3 in the league.

In the first half, William Smith took its largest lead at 39-27 on a Jacqueline Murphy layup with 4:02 remaining, but Skidmore was able to cut the lead to six, giving the Herons a 44-38 halftime lead.
 
William Smith pushed its lead to nine in the second half after a Chloe Hayter layup at 12:33, but the Thoroughbreds answered right back with a 10-0 run capped by a pair of three pointers from Megan Gaugler, giving them a 56-55 lead with 7:42 remaining.
 
The teams battled back and forth down the stretch and after Jamie Rubin made one of two free throws, Skidmore had one final deep look but it came up short as the Herons held on for the win.
 
Christina Gargiso scored a game-high 18 points for Skidmore and Gaugler recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Kristen Kush led three players in double figures for William Smith with 15, while Liz Douglass added 14 and Jacqueline Murphy tallied a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
 
The Herons held a 21-12 advantage in offensive rebounds and outscored the Skidmore bench, 30-14.
 
Skidmore returns to action on Friday at Vassar.
