Gaugler reaches 1000; Skidmore falls to Union in OT

Box Score Schenectady, N.Y. - Skidmore senior guard Megan Gaugler became the 12th player in program history to score 1000 career points in Friday night's 59-49 overtime loss at Union.

Gaugler finished with eight points in the game, giving her exactly 1000 for her decorated career.  She became the first player to join the 1000 point club since Sharlyn Harper reached the milestone during the 2009-2010 season.

The loss was the second straight overtime loss for the Thoroughbreds, dropping them to 11-5 overall and 4-3 in league play.  With the win, the Dutchwomen improve to 8-9 overall and 4-5 in league action.

Union stormed out to a 25-12 halftime lead. The Dutchwomen led by 17 after a Thompson free throw with 17:12 left in the second half, the largest lead, and led by 10 with 5:40 left at 39-29. But Skidmore chipped away and went on a 14-4 run fueled by 10 points from Christina Gargiso and tied it up with 41 seconds left on a free throw by Jordyn Wartts. Union had a shot to take the lead with two free throws with 41 seconds left but did not convert and the contest went to the extra session.

It was all Union in the overtime, as the Dutchwomen jumped out to a six point lead with 2:24 left. Up 52-48 with 57 seconds remaining, the Dutchwomen closed out the contest with a 7-1 run giving them the 59-49 victory.

Gargiso led the way for the Thoroughbreds, finishing with 21 points and seven rebounds.  Gaugler added seven rebounds and three assists to go along with her eight points and freshman Angela Botiba chipped in with five points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Shayla Madden scored 21 for Union, while Rachel Beaulac and Kate Thompson had 12 points and 12 rebounds apiece.
