Schenectady, N.Y.-- Union College jumped out to a quick lead on the way to a 12-3 Liberty League win over Skidmore College Tuesday night at Frank Bailey Field.
The Dutchwomen remained undefeated in the league with a 3-0 mark and now stand 5-3 overall with the fourth straight win. Skidmore is now also 5-3 and fell to 1-2 in the league.
Chelsea Charette scored four goals and added an assists and Kristin Joyce had three goals and seven ground balls for Union. Melissa Hine dished out five assists with her two goals for a seven point night, and added six ground balls for the Dutchwomen. Alexis Deeb made seven saves in the Union net.
Skidmore had goals by
Kimberly Segalas,
Lindsay Stavola and
Ali Frey, while
Annie Keeler made two stops in nearly 45 minutes in goal after
Rachel Klein had two stops in just over 15 minutes.
Charette scored the first two goals of the contest for a 2-0 lead 1:54 into the game. Stavola notched her 24th of the year at 2:56 of the first, but Joyce scored with 25:52 left and then 3:04 later for a 4-1 home advantage. Frey's second of the year with 22:11 pulled the Thoroughbreds closer at 4-2. But the Dutchwomen scored the next six of the half. After Joyce's 26th of the year, Hine got her 16th, and tallies by Casey Dianni and Heather Fraser, followed by two by Charette, sent Union into the half with a 10-2 lead.
HIne scored 8:08 into the second half followed by a Hilary Salander Union score with 16:50 left. Segalas capped the scoring with her 11th with 9:31 remaining.
Union had a 20-12 shot advantage and 27-19 advantage in ground balls. The hosts had 19 turnovers to the Thoroughbreds' 18.
Skidmore is at Clarkson Friday and St. Lawrence Saturday.
