Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College softball team dropped a pair of Liberty League games to St. Lawrence, Saturday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field.
The Saints took game one, 6-4 in 10 innings and won 16-4 in game two.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 11-19 overall and 0-6 in the league, while St. Lawrence improves to 11-17 and 2-4.
In the opener, the Saints put up three runs in the top of the 10th after trading runs with Skidmore to earn a 6-4 victory.
The Thoroughbreds opened the scoring in the third, when junior
Christina Gargiso plated
Carol Brown with an RBI single. St. Lawrence answered back in the fifth with a home run from Elizabeth McGinley to tie it up at 1-1, but in the bottom half of the inning Skidmore took the lead right back on an RBI single from
Charlotte Evans.
McGinley came up big again, plating Khalshia White in the top of the seventh to tie it up and send the game to extra innings.
In the top of the ninth, the Saints grabbed a 3-2 lead on Rachel Duffany's RBI single, but once again the Thoroughbreds answered back in the bottom half as
Caitlin Ketcham tied it up again at 3-3 with a two-out RBI single.
In the 10th, St. Lawrence took advantage of an RBI single from Lauren Weisbarth and a big two-run single by Carolin Kieltyka to build a three-run cushion.
Skidmore was able to make it 6-4 on an RBI single from
Christina Hein but, the Saints held on for the victory.
Duffany (4-10) picked up the win, tossing all 10 innings and allowing four runs (three earned).
Abby Fuhrman (4-5) took the loss for the Thoroughbreds, allowing three runs (one earned) in 1.1 innings.
The second game was all offense for the Saints as the put up 16 runs on 17 hits to earn the win and sweep.
Megan Goodemote (2-5) picked up the win, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits in the complete game effort.
The Thoroughbreds host Rensselaer, tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
