Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- Skidmore College junior goalie
Rachel Klein had 13 saves to lead the Thoroughbreds to a 13-5 Liberty League women's lacrosse win over William Smith College, Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
Skidmore moves into third place in the league with 5-2 league record and 9-4 overall mark. William Smith falls to 3-2 and 5-6.
The Herons took their only lead of the game at the 27:24 mark of the first half when Katherine Vesce scored her 21st goal for a brief 1-0 lead.
Lindsay Stavola tied it less than two minutes later and
Lexi Melville gave the Thoroughbreds a 2-1 lead at 22:02. Lucy Johnson quickly tied it at 21:39, but Skidmore would get the next six goals from five different players to take an 8-2 lead.
William Smith attempted a comeback, scoring the final goal of the half and the first goal of the second half to cut the lead to four, 8-4. The Thoroughbreds regrouped with tight defense and four straight goals to put the game out of reach, 12-4.
Klein had seven of her 13 saves in the second half, including four straight saves on a quick series of shots to keep the Herons off the board.
Stavola finished with four goals, giving her 45 on the season.
Summer Segalas and
Lauren Madden scored two goals each. Melville,
Kimberly Segalas Sydney Weill,
Abbie Hamlin, and
Robin Fetterolf all scored single goals.
Ali Evans had a big game on defense with six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Kimberly Segalas also played well defensively with four draw controls and three caused turnovers.
Vesce and Johnson finished with two goals each for William Smith. Johnson added four ground balls and a caused turnover. Maggie McNair started the game in goal and had one save, while Jesse Wilson had six saves over the final 41:00.
Skidmore is at Amherst on Tuesday. William Smith will host Ithaca on Tuesday.
