Stavola sets season scoring record in 16-5 win over Rochester

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— Skidmore College senior attack Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, N.Y./Montauk) scored five goals and added two assists to lead the Thoroughbreds to a 16-5 Liberty League lacrosse win over the University of Rochester on Friday at Wachenheim Field.

Stavola broke the Skidmore single-season scoring record with her seventh point of the game, an assist on Lauren McCarthy's goal with 12:11 to play in the second half. She has 41 goals and 27 assists for 68 points, one more than the record set in 1998 by Vanessa Raptopoulos. She also became the 11th Skidmore player to pass the 40-goal season mark.

Skidmore (8-4, 4-2) scored first, just 16 seconds into the game on a Stavola goal. Lindsay Randall tied it for Rochester (2-8, 1-3 Liberty) at 24:53. Stavola responded 20 seconds later to make it 2-1. The Yellowjackets hung tough for awhile, with Liza Maizel scoring her 13th of the season at 23:35 to tie it 2-2.

The Thoroughbreds then rattled off nine straight to effectively put the game away with an 11-2 lead at the half.

Skidmore's Lauren Madden finished with three goals, while Kimberly Segalas contributed two goals, two assists, two ground balls, and three draws. Lauren McCarthy had two goals, three ground balls, and four draws and Ali Evans added three ground balls and a game-high three caused turnovers.

Maizel finished with two goals and two draws for Rochester. Charlotte Clements added two goals and Niki Holmes had a pair of assists and four draw controls.

Skidmore held a 22-14 shot advantage, including 14-4 in the first half.

Rachel Klein had five saves for the Thoroughbreds, while Frances Cooley had two for the Yellowjackets.

Skidmore will host William Smith on Saturday at 2 p.m., while Rochester travels to Union for a 2 p.m. start.
