Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team lost 11-8 to #18 Williams College in a non-league contest, Wednesday night at Wachenheim Field.
The loss drops the Thoroughbreds to 7-4, while the Ephs move to 7-5.
Williams scored five of the game's first six goals to open an early 5-1 lead. Kaitlin Ellis had two goals and an assist during the Ephs' run.
Lauren McCarthy scored her second goal of the game for Skidmore at 10:04 to make it 5-2, but Williams scored the final four goals of the half to take a 9-2 lead into the break.
Becca McGovern made it 10-2 to start the second half and the Ephs appeared to be in control. Skidmore scored the next five goals, to cut the lead to three, 10-7 with 7:59 to play.
Lindsay Stavola had two, while
Robin Fetterolf,
Lauren Madden, and McCarthy all scored in the run.
The Williams defense kept the margin at three for the next six minutes, until McGovern scored for the Ephs with 1:55 to play to make it 11-7. Stavola scored her 36th of the season with 42 seconds left for the 11-8 final.
Stavola finished with three goals and an assist. McCarthy had three goals and four ground balls. Stavola now has 36 goals and 25 assists for 61 points, six of the season point record of 67 set in 1998 by Vanessa Raptopoulos.
Ellis led Williams with three goals and an assist, while McGovern finished with three goals and three ground balls.
Rachel Klein had five saves for Skidmore, while Julia Schreiber had 10 saves for Williams, including eight in the second half.
The Thoroughbreds resume Liberty League play at home on Friday at 4 p.m. against Rochester.
