Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Kelly Legg converted on a put-back with less than a second remaining as visiting St. Lawrence defeated the Skidmore College women's basketball team 49-47, Friday night at the Williamson Sports Center.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 7-6 in the league and 11-12 overall, while the Saints improve to 9-4 in the league and 18-5 overall.
Both teams battled back and forth throughout the game, with Skidmore holding the largest lead of the contest at 6 points with 11:57 remaining in the first half. There were four ties and four lead changes in the first half with the Thoroughbreds taking a 27-26 lead into half time.
The teams continued to keep it close in the second half as neither team was able to gain more than a four point advantage. Late in the contest, Erica Sperra gave St. Lawrence a three-point advantage on a layup with 2:06 remaining, but
Christine Kemp answered with a three-pointer less than 10 seconds later to tie it up at 47-47. Neither team was able to convert for the remainder of the game until Legg was able to recover the rebound off Iris Santoni's missed jumper and layed it up and in with 0.7 seconds left to give the Saints a 49-47 victory.
For St. Lawrence, Legg had a game-high 18 points to go with nine rebounds and Sperra finished with a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards.
The Thoroughbreds were outscored 26-14 in the paint, but were able to turn 16 Saint turnovers into 13 points.
Skidmore hosts Clarkson at 2 p.m. on Saturday as part of the Big Green Scream. The game will be the final game of the regular season for the Thoroughbreds.
