Skidmore women fall short at Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – Middlebury College improved to 8-1 on the season as the Panthers picked up a 73-56 women's basketball win over Skidmore College (4-6), Saturday  in Pepin Gym.

Middlebury held Skidmore to 2 of 20 shooting through the first 12 minutes of the game, owning an 18-6 advantage. The Panthers led by as many as 15 in the first half, taking a 30-17 lead into the intermission.

Skidmore cut the lead to 13 at the 15:55 mark of the second half on a three from Christine Kemp, before the Panthers went on a 12-0 run to extend the lead to 25. Middlebury maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game, knocking down 12 of 14 free throws in the final 2:45 to secure the 73-56 win.

Middlebury put four players in double-figures, led by 16 points, nine rebound and three assists from Lauren Sanchez. Maddie Moreau (8 rebounds) and Stephany Surrette (12 rebounds) added 15 points apiece, while Tracy Borsinger netted 14.

Jordyn Wartts led Skidmore with 14 points on 6 of 8 shooting, followed by Megan Gaugler with 11.
