Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team suffered an 84-72 loss to Union in its Liberty League opener, Tuesday night at the Williamson Sports Center.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 4-7, while the Dutchwomen improve to 6-3. It was the first league game for both teams.
Megan Gaugler opened up the game for Skidmore with a three-pointer but after that Union went on an 11-0 run and led for the rest of the contest. The Dutchwomen took a 38-24 lead into halftime after shooting 63% from the floor in the first half.
Skidmore was able to stay even in the second half but couldn't fight back from its first half deficit, outscoring Union, 48-46 in the second half.
For the Dutchwomen, Lauren Hennessey had a game-high 16 and Mary Donohue added 15. Leah Pepe and Lauren McCormick each chipped in with 14.
Union held a 33-12 advantage in points off turnovers and shot 57.1% from the floor for the game, while Skidmore shot 34.8%.
The Thoroughbreds return to action on Friday night at William Smith for a Liberty League matchup.
