Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team lost 9-7 to Rensselaer in Liberty League play on Friday at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the league, while the Engineers improve to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the league.
Madden tallied the game's first goal at the 25:12 mark, giving the Thoroughbreds the early lead. RPI's Afton Marshall tied it up less than two minutes later and Alissa Peterson gave made it 3-1 with back-to-back goals.
Abbie Hamlin (South Hadley, Mass.) made it 3-2 with her first goal of the season, but the Engineers added three more to take a 6-2 lead. After exchanging goals, Klaus netted her first of the game with 1:04 remaining to make it a three-goal deficit at 7-4 going into the half.
The Thoroughbreds scored the first two goals of the second half as Klaus and Stavola scored 26 seconds apart to cut the lead to one at the 21:56 mark. Rensselaer answered right back with a Sam Fennessey goal to make it an 8-6 game.
Stavola cut the lead back to one on her 20th goal of the season at the 18:01 mark. After 12 minutes without a goal, Peterson scored her fourth goal of the game with 6:01 remaining to make it 9-7 as the Engineers were able to maintain possession for a majority of the remainder of the game and seal the victory.
RPI outshot Skidmore 36-19 as Thoroughbred goalie
Rachel Klein (Far Hills, N.J.) was strong in defeat, finishing with 14 saves. Ariana Hood made seven stops for the Engineers.
Skidmore host Vassar at 2 p.m. tomorrow in Liberty League action.
