Thoroughbreds take two from Sage

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Sam Crose tossed a shutout in the opener and the Thoroughbreds came back from a 4-0 deficit to win game two as the Skidmore College softball team swept Sage College 3-0, 7-5 Wednesday afternoon at Thoroughbred Field.
The Thoroughbreds improved to 10-8 on the season, while the Gators fall to 0-14.

The Gators would add another run in the top of the second inning as freshman Olivia Sullivan (Copenhagen, N.Y.) reached on an error and would eventually score on a wild pitch.

Skidmore added a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning as senior Arielle Manstein (Elkins Park, Pa.) drove in a run and freshman Carol Brown (Seattle, Wash.) had an RBI sacrifice fly and cut the Sage lead to just two, 4-2.

Sage added another run as sophomore Meghan Welcome's (Cohoes, N.Y.) RBI single in the top of the fourth gave Sage a 5-2 lead.

Skidmore would tie the action in the bottom of the fourth inning with three runs as Manstein, Brown and Tara DeGeorge (Seaford, N.Y.) each drove in a run to knot it at 5-5.

DeGeorge broke the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single and Lauren Dinsdale (Harrington Park, N.J.) drove in another run with an RBI single through the left side spotting Skidmore to a 7-5 lead.

Sage's sophomore pitcher Kristen Knights (Chatham, N.Y.) was the start in the night cap, working 5.2 innings with three earned runs off 10 hits in the game and drops to 0-6. She was relieved in the bottom of the sixth inning by freshman Nichole French (Harrisville, N.Y.).
