Women’s lax falls to Middlebury, 17-6

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team dropped to 7-8 after Wednesday night's 17-6 loss to Middlebury in non-league action at Wachenheim Field. The Panthers improve to 7-6.
 
Middlebury got out to an early 2-0 lead on a pair of goals from Dana Heritage in the first five minutes. Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, Conn.) cut the lead to one for the Thoroughbreds with her 40th goal of the season at the 22:54 mark, but Heritage would add another and back to-back free-position goals from Sally Ryan and Heather Marrison pushed the lead to 5-1 with 19:13 remaining in the half.
 
Skidmore got within two on goals from Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, Mass.) and Abbie Klaus (Bethesda, Md.) to make it 5-3. The Panthers increased the lead back to four on goals from Ryan and Marrison before Lauren Madden (Huntington, N.Y.) made it 7-4 with 4:49 remaining.
 
Middlebury closed out the half with a pair of goals to take a 9-4 halftime lead and would scored seven straight goals from six different players, including the first five of the second half to make it a 14-4 game early in the second half.  The Thoroughbreds were never able to rebound as the final score was 17-6 in favor of Middlebury.
 
Madden scored twice for Skidmore and also had four ground balls and two caused turnovers while Segalas also had two goals. Heritage finished with four goals and Ryan and Marrison each had three to pace the Panthers.
 
Middlebury outshot the Thoroughbreds 32-17 as Rachel Klein (Far Hills, N.J.) finished with 10 saves in goals for Skidmore. Lily Nguyen earned the win, stopping five shots in 50:49 and Becca Shaw finished out the game, facing no shots in the final 9:11.
 
The Thoroughbreds wrap up their regular season with games at Hamilton on Friday and William Smith on Saturday.
