Late run leads Saints past Skidmore, 13-11

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-- St. Lawrence University outscored Skidmore 6-1 over the game's final 11:21 for a 13-11 Liberty League women's lacrosse win, Friday at Wachenheim Field.

The Thoroughbreds are 6-7 overall and 2-3 in Liberty League play, while the Saints are 12-2 and 6-1.

Skidmore had SLU playing from behind early, scoring the game's first three goals to take a 3-0 lead. Kimberly Segalas took the opening draw and scored at 29:43. Lindsay Stavola converted a free position at 22:54 to make it 2-0 and then assisted on a Segalas goal at 19:39 for the 3-0 advantage. Alanna Piroli got the Saints on the board with a free position goal at 16:59. The Thoroughbreds came right back with Stavola setting-up Lauren Madden at 15:41 for a 4-1 lead.

St. Lawrence scored the next three goals to tie it before Segalas scored at 5:45 to regain the lead, 5-4. Kelsey Redpath tied it for the Saints with 1:26 to play, but Madden scored her 35th goal of the season with :40 left in the half to give Skidmore a 6-5 lead at the break.

In the second half, St. Lawrence regained the lead, 7-6, with goals 31 seconds apart by Kim Morse at 27:43 and Lexi Wisnowski at 27:12.

Skidmore dominated the next 10 minutes, scoring four straight goals for an 10-7 lead. Stavola opened the run with her 30th of the season at 24:19. Abbie Klaus scored at 20:06 and Segalas drilled a free position shot for her 36th goal of the season at 19:50. Klaus capped the run with her 22nd goal at 18:21.

The game was then delayed for 12 minutes because of a power outage, giving the Saints a chance to regroup. SLU came out of the delay, scoring three straight and six of the game's final seven for the 13-11 final. Morse scored three of the goals, including the first two of the run at 11:21 and 10:48. Brigid Hurley scored twice and Mary Jane Sweetland had the other goal for the Saints.

Segalas finished with four goals and four draw controls. Stavola had two goals and four assists, while Klaus had three goals and two draw controls. Madden had two goals, four ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Amber Kinsey contributed seven ground balls and two caused turnovers and Lauren McCarthy had four draw controls and two ground balls. Thoroughbred goalie Rachel Klein had seven saves.

Morse led the Saints with four goals, while Wisnowski had two goals and two assists. Hurley and Piroli had two goals each. Anna Marchand had 11 saves in goal, including two in the final two minutes to preserve the win.

Skidmore will host Clarkson on Saturday at 2 p.m., while St. Lawrence travels to Union.
