Women's lax wins big at Rochester, 17-7

Rochester, N.Y.-- Kimberly Segalas (Stamford, CT/Heywood Thomas) scored seven goals and added an assist to lead the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team to a 17-10 Liberty League win over the University of Rochester on Saturday.

The Thoroughbreds improve to 6-5 overall and 2-2 in Liberty action.  Rochester is 2-9 and 1-3.

Lauren Madden (Huntington, NY/St. Anthony's) scored five goals for the Thoroughbreds. Abbie Klaus (Bethesda, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) had three goals and Lindsay Stavola (Montauk, NY/East Hampton) scored two. Madden added two assists. Mackenzie Staub (East Northport, NY/Northport), Sidney Weill (Woodbridge, CT/Hopkins School), and Stavola had one assist apiece.

Amanda Case (McLean, VA/Langley) and Danielle Mondro (Concord, NH/Bishop Brady) led Rochester with two goals apiece. Liza Maizel (New Milford, CT/New Milford), Carly Williams (Newcastle, ME/Lincoln Academy), and Maggie Stevenson (Sewickly, PA/Quaker Valley) had one goal each. Chelsea Audin (Sudbury, MA/Lincoln-Sudbury) had one assist.

Rachel Klein (Far Hills, NJ/Newark Academy) made eight saves in goal for Skidmore. Frances Cooley (Cleveland Heights, OH/Hawken School) had five saves for Rochester.

Madden scored three goals and assisted on one more in the first nine minutes as Skidmore jumped in front, 6-1. The Thoroughbreds led, 11-4, at halftime. Two goals from Mondro and a shot from the free position by Maizel helped Rochester stay within striking distance, 13-7 Skidmore, with just over 17 minutes to play. Segalas scored twice in a minute to extend the Skidmore lead to 15-7 with 13:48 left.

For Skidmore, Amber Kinsey (Troy, NY/Lansingburgh) caused four turnovers, won four draw controls, and had four ground balls. Madden won five draws for Skidmore and Lauren McCarthy (Ipswich, MA/Ipswich) won three.
