Thoroughbreds open with 14-6 win over Hartwick

Oneonta, N.Y. - The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team opened its 2010 season with a 14-6 victory over Hartwick in non-conference play Friday afternoon at Wright Stadium. Hartwick falls to 1-1.

Five players accounted for 13 goals and five assists for Skidmore. Junior Lindsay Stavola scored four goals and dished out three assists to pace the team.Kimberly Segalas contributed three goals and Abbie Klaus, Lauren McCarthy, andLauren Madden each notched two goals in the game.

The Thoroughbreds opened up a three-goal lead after the opening five and a half minutes of action as Segalas, Stavola, and McCarthy each tallied. Hartwick  sandwiched goals around a  Madden score to make it a 4-2 game with 17:27 left.

Skidmore would score four straight goals from four different players in a six-minute span to open up an 8-2 advantage and following a second yellow card, 'Wick was forced to play the final 40 minutes of the game down one player. A pair of Stavola tallies and one from Madden gave the Thoroughbreds an 11-2 lead at the half.

The Hawks would score four straight goals in the second half to cut the lead to seven, 13-6,  but Klaus would end the 'Wick rally and end the day's scoring with her second of the game with 3:31 to play. She would also add a game-high four draw controls for the Thoroughbreds. McCarthy grabbed a game-high four ground ball pickups and goalie Rachel Klein made three saves in the Skidmore cage.

Skidmore returns to action in Colorado Springs, CO on March 16th. The Thoroughbreds play Fort Lewis at 1 p.m. (MST).
