Clinton, N.Y. -- Christine Gargiso scored 18 points off the bench on 7-9 shooting to lead the Skidmore College women's basketball team to a 67-55 Liberty League win at Hamilton College on Friday.

The Thoroughbreds remain alone in first place with an 8-1 Liberty and 16-3 overall record.  Hamilton drops to 4-4 and 11-7.

Sharlyn Harper scored a team-high 19 points for Skidmore, including 16 points in the second half alone on the strength of four 3-pointers. Dana Leonard '10 grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds -- all on the defensive glass. The Thoroughbreds shot 39 percent (21-54) from the field, but made 9 of 17 shots (53 percent) from beyond the 3-point arc.

Alex Sowinski '10 drained five 3-pointers and paced Hamilton with 17 points.

Skidmore scored the first five points, led 13-3 midway through the first half, and never trailed. The Continentals shot just 32 percent (7-22) from the floor in the first half as the Thoroughbreds took a 28-19 lead into the break. Skidmore led by as many as 15 points in the second half, including 52-37 with 5:21 left. An 11-1 run by Hamilton pulled the Continentals within 53-48 with 3:13 remaining, but they didn't get any closer.

The Thoroughbreds travel to William Smith College for another league game on Saturday.
