Eastern advances to quarterfinals with 1-0 win over Stevens

Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Jess Jaindl broke a scoreless tie with 11:21 remaining to send the Eastern University field hockey team to the NCAA Quarterfinals with Saturday's 1-0 win over Stevens at Thoroughbred Field.

The Eagles improve to 20-2 and will face regional host Skidmore College at 1 p.m. on Sunday.  The Ducks finish the season with a 12-12 record.

Jaindl was able to get one past Stevens keeper Ellyn Griggs after Griggs made a save on Kimberly Campbell's shot from the top of the circle.  Yvonne Herbster deflected it over to Jaindl and she put home the eventual game winner for her 17th goal of the season.

The Ducks came right back and came close to tying it up when Caitlin Chamberlain got past the defense to a 1-on-1 with the goalie but Laura Ressler came off the line to make a save and preserve the shutout victory for Eastern.

Ressler made two saves, while Griggs stopped 12 shots in the losing effort.

The Eagles outshot Stevens, 14-4, and held an 18-3 advantage in penalty corners.
