St.Rose wins Capital District swimming match-up

Albany, N.Y.-- The College of St. Rose men's and women's swimming and diving teams each beat visiting Skidmore College Sunday afternoon. The Thoroughbred men lost 128-89, while the women lost 143-95.

In the women's meet, Sonia Segal-Smith  won two events with season best times in the 200 Free (2:03.69) and 500 Free (5:30.49). Heather Friedman won the 50 Free (26.52) and was second in the 100 Free (58.26), while Suzanna Lourie finished third in both races (50Free 26.93, 100 Free 58.61). 

Carrie Koch took second in 1000 Free with a lifetime best of 11:37.02 and third in 400 IM (5:09.08).  Kelsey Carson had two great come from behind swims, taking second in the 200 Fly (2:24.76) and third in the 500 Free (5:34.71), both great come from behind swims.

Skidmore swept the diving events. Doug Pilawa won both rounds of 1 meter with 293.25 in optionals and 188.30 on voluntaries for a combined score of 481.50, earning another NCAA qualifying score.  Kristen Stearns won the optional with a score of 168.25 while Julia DeGemmis finished second with 167.0. In the women's voluntaries, Stearns finished first with a score of 144.40 and DeGemmis scored 144.10 for second.

For the men, Jesse Adler was second in the 100 Free (52.85) and third in 400 IM (4:47.04). Tom Saglimbeni finished third in both the 200 Free (1:57.10) and 200 Fly (2:12.31). Ben Forman grabbed third in the 1000 Free with a lifetime best time of 11:38.31. John Tyler Norton took third in both the 50 Free (23.63) and 500 Free (5:23.31).

In an exciting conclusion to the meet, the men's 200 Free Relay team of Saglimbeni, Kyle Bessa-McManus, Norton and Adler won with a time of 1:34.32, touching out St. Rose by 0.03.

Skidmore will host Rensselaer on Jan. 30 at 1 p.m.
