St. Lawrence uses hot shooting to drop Thoroughbreds, 64-43

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – Skidmore College lost its first league game of the season, 64-43 to St. Lawrence in Saturday's Liberty League women's basketball contest at the Sports and Recreation Center.
The Thoroughbreds fall to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the Liberty League, while the Saints improve to 10-5 and 2-3.
Senior Sharlyn Harper (New York, N.Y.) led Skidmore with 12 points and seven rebounds, coming up just one point shy of becoming the 11th player in Skidmore history with 1,000 career points. Antonia Williams (Schenectady, N.Y.) chipped in with six points and Amber Kinsey (Troy, N.Y.) and Megan Gaugler (Amsterdam, N.Y.) each added five for the Thoroughbreds. 
Skidmore was able to get out to an eight point lead with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half, but St. Lawrence went on a 23-8 run led by Casey Capello's four three-pointers in the final 3:43 and took a  27-20 lead into halftime.
The Thoroughbreds were able to get as close as four points on a layup from Gaugler at the 17:03 mark of the second half but St. Lawrence pulled away. Capello would hit four more threes in the second half as the Saints would stretch their lead to as many as 31 on a pair of free throws from Katherine Edgerton with 3:21 remaining and would close it out with a 21 point victory.
Capello finished with 28 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 8-of-11 from beyond the arc for St. Lawrence. Edgerton added 14 points and 6 rebounds and Iris Santoni finished with five points, seven rebounds and eight assists for the Saints.
St. Lawrence shot 58.8% (10-17) for threes and outrebounded Skidmore 48-37.
The Thoroughbreds return to action on Friday Jan. 29, when they travel to Vassar for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
