Thoroughbred women ease past Clarkson, 63-48

Saratoga Springs, N.Y.— The Skidmore College women's basketball team used a balanced offense to remain unbeaten in Liberty League play with a 63-48 win over Clarkson University, Friday night at the Sports and Recreation Center.

 

The Thoroughbreds have won five straight to go 12-2 overall and 4-0 in Liberty play.  The Golden Knights have lost eight straight to drop to 3-11 and 0-4.

 

The game was close in the first half with five lead changes and a slim four point lead for the Thoroughbreds at the break, 33-29.

 

Up by three, 43-40 with 15:24 to play, Skidmore broke it open with a 14-2 run over the next 10 minutes to lead 57-42 with 5:00 to play.  The Thoroughbreds held the Golden Knights to just four field goals for eight points over the final 15:24.

 

Christina Gargiso (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Technical) led four players in double figures with 15 points off the bench.  Sharlyn Harper (New York, N.Y./Holderness) moved closer the 1,000-point career mark with 12 points.   She's 13 away from becoming the program's 11th 1,000-point scorer.  Dana Leonard (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown) added 11 points and seven rebounds, while Amber Kinsey (Troy, N.Y./Lansingburgh) finished with 10 points.

 

Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baker) scored 18 points and had nine rebounds for Clarkson.

 

Skidmore scored 18 points off 29 Golden Knight turnovers and held a 48-32 rebound advantage, scoring 20 second-chance points.

 

The Thoroughbreds complete the league weekend on Saturday at 2 p.m. against St. Lawrence.  Clarkson travels to Union for a 2 p.m. game.
