Box Score

Saratoga Springs, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in league play with Saturday afternoon's 56-50 victory over Hamilton College at the Sports and Recreation Center. The Thoroughbreds improve to 11-2 overall while the Continentals fall to7-5 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Sharlyn Harper (New York, N.Y.) scored a team-high 16 points on 12-of-17 shooting from the free throw line and Dana Leonard (Cooperstown, N.Y.) had 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Skidmore. Junior Amber Kinsey (Troy, N.Y.) chipped in with six points and eight rebounds (seven offensive) and Christina Gargiso (Staten Island, N.Y.) had nine points off the bench for the Thoroughbreds.
The teams battled back and forth in a defensive first half before Skidmore went on an 8-2 run to close out the half and take a 21-16 lead into halftime.
The Thoroughbreds came out tough in the second half and were able to stretch their lead to 13 when freshman Logan Frederick (Arlington, Va.) grabbed an offensive rebound and found Gargiso for a layup. Hamilton battled back and was able to cut the lead down to four on a basket by Reisa Asimovic with 3:35 remaining, but that's as close as the Continentals would get as Harper and Leonard hit free throws down the stretch to seal the victory for Skidmore.
Madie Harlem led all scorers with 19 points for Hamilton. Blue Sanders chipped in with 13 points off the bench and Asimovic recorded eight assists for the Continentals.
The Thoroughbred defense was tough throughout as Skidmore scored 27 points off 28 Hamilton turnovers and outrebounded the Continentals 43-27.
The Thoroughbreds return to action on Friday, Jan. 22, when they host Clarkson at 6 p.m.
